The Blessed Nights

The Blessed Nights

We have now approached the most blessed 10 nights of the Islamic Calendar. This being the last 10 nights of Ramadan. It cannot be stressed enough how important these few nights are. Within these nights there is one that is especially important and that is Layalatul Qadr. During Laylatul Qadr it is narrated that the reward of this night is worth 1,000 months of rewards. A night so special that it has a surah solely dedicated to describe the reward of such a night. For that we should strive to work our hardest and focus solely on our deen. It is commonly assumed that Laylatul Qadr is on one of the last odd nights of Ramadan, more specifically the 27th night. However, this assumption is not confirmed and for that we should not assume what night Laylatul Qadr is truly on. We should choose to spend our last nights of Ramadan to the best of our abilities.

Ramadan is described as the month of forgiveness but this especially applies to the last 10 nights. So if you have not made dua for forgiveness before, make it now. And if you have made dua, make more dua. This is the month in which people are saved from the fire and the last 10 nights of Ramadan are what can guarantee us our place in Jannah, Inshallah. Some describe the earlier days of Ramadan as practice for the last 10 nights. This perspective is used to emphasize that our hard work and dedication should be at its peak during the last 10 nights.

During this blessed time it is best advised that you make dua. Make dua for whatever it is that you have wished for whether that be your place in Jannah, the healing of a family member, or anything you need or want. Use this time to ask Allah (swt) for it. Do not wait and regret taking the last 10 nights for granted. Alhamdulillah we are able to see these 10 nights and for that we should not hesitate to worship and ask Allah (swt) for guidance. It is not guaranteed that we will see the next Ramadan so use the time you have now wisely.

There is so much that can be done during the last 10 nights of Ramadan and that can include consistently reading the Quran, praying your sunnah prayers, praying at the mosque more often, praying Qiyyam, and so much more. The rewards of the last nights are most accounted for at night. For that we should take the time to adjust our schedule in order to use our nights wisely. We should try to pray Qiyyam and wake up or stay awake until Fajr. The brunt of the rewards found during Ramadan is within the last 10 nights so try to stay up for Qiyyam and use it wisely to the best of your abilities.

The last thing I want to stress is what we ask for in our duas. There are many things to ask for whether it be personal or general needs and wants, but remember that the next Ramadan is not guaranteed. For that it is encouraged and heavily advised to make dua and ask Allah (swt) to let us see the next Ramadan and laylatul Qadr. So remember to make duas such as    اَللّهُمَّ بَلِّغْنَا رَمَضَان (Oh Allah, bless us with Ramadan)  and (Oh Allah, bless us with Laylatul qadr) اَللّهُمَّ بَلِّغْنَا لیلة القدر. Inshallah, by being consistent with our duas and improving ourselves we’ll emerge as new and better people after Ramadan.
